along Rte. 138 on the Canton/Milton line.
We will walk a few miles on flat, possibly muddy terrain.
Habitat is forested floodplain/swamp with remnant marsh.
We should see many "first of the season" birds on this trip.
This traditional area has produced a good number and variety of migrants
and summer residents from rails & shorebirds through thrushes and warblers.

Explore this productive migrant trap situated along the edge of the Seekonk River
at the upper portion of Narragansett Bay.
We can expect a good variety of neotropical migrants
in a picturesque setting with lots of history.

Camping & Birding Weekend Wompatuck State Park

Come birding for a weekend of camping and birding in what has become known
as the birding Mecca of the South Shore.
We will be camping in the state park campground
and birding throughout the weekend. We will target such specialties as
Worm-Eating Warbler and Cerulean Warbler as well as some of the later
migrants that visit the park. Enjoy the great outdoors and the campfire at
night as we listen for Barred Owls by firelight.
Trip has limited particpation and a small fee for the camping sites.

Seabird and Whale Tales 2012

Join us on Sunday, June 10th for our Seabirds & Whale Tales Excursion.
We leave the dock at 8 am and return by 4 pm.
Our goal is to view the amazing marine wildlife that can be found
in Cape Cod Bay and Massachusetts Bay,
including the waters of the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary
Enjoy amazing views of seabirds, whales, dolphins, basking sharks, and more!
The advantage of an all day trip is that you have the time needed
to reach offshore areas and you can spend more time with the animals when sighted.
Travel aboard the "Tails of the Sea," a luxury 110' whale watching boat
owned and operated by Captain John Boats out of Plymouth Harbor.
Our guest naturalists for this trip include David Clapp, Jim Sweeney and Krill Carson.
And other NECWA staff and interns will be onboard to chat with our passengers.
NECWA is a volunteer non-profit organization so all profits are used
to purchase supplies and equipment for the work
that we do on behalf of marine wildlife.

in the Carver (southwest) part of the forest.
A serene way to end the day with Prairie Warblers and Hermit Thrushes
reluctantly giving way to Whip-poor-wills.
Northern Saw-whet Owl is possible
and probably breeds within the forest during some years.
Come at 6:00 with your own picnic supper or 6:30 for birds.

Mourning Warbler nest on the mountain and there are other species
with more northerly tastes which hang around here.

Intersection of Roaring Brook Road and New Lenox Road
which is off of Rt 7 in Lenox.
Go east from Rt 7 and follow 1.5 miles to the Housatonic River bridge.
Roaring Brook Road is just beyond the bridge.
Mourning Warblers are a specialty on this trip
as well as other warblers and vireos.
Recently there are singing Olive-sided Flycatchers present.
Begin along the Housatonic River
and end up on the other side of the mountain.

This trip will explore a variety of habitats from "quaking" bogs,
Red Maple and Atlantic White Cedar Swamps, freshwater marshes,
wet meadows and grasslands, to coastal plain ponds.
We will look for the birds that are found in these various habitats
and learn about their connections to each of these distinctive habitats.

from Broad-winged Hawk to Yellow-bellied Sapsucker to Blue-headed Vireo
to Chestnut-sided Warbler to Scarlet Tanager to Baltimore Oriole
and lots of stuff in between. Perhaps a Bobcat or Moose.
Crane Wildlife Management Area, Falmouth

Follow to end where there is a parking area and model airplane area.
Habitat is grassland within pine barrens.
Great location for Grasshopper Sparrow, N. Bobwhite and Orchard Oriole.
In recent years there has been Blue Grosbeak & Clay-colored Sparrow present
and possibly breeding.
