EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, December 21.
A possible TUFTED DUCK seen on Friday at Monponsett Pond in Halifax
has not been reported since, but the PAINTED BUNTING THAT has been
visiting as a feeder at 7 Harbor View Road in Orleans was still there
yesterday. A WHITE-WINGED DOVE appeared at a feeder during the storm yesterday on
inaccessible, private property in Plymouth.
Typically this past weekend would have marked the first weekend of
the annual Christmas Bird Count period, but several of the counts
scheduled yesterday were either cancelled or postponed due to the storm.
However, the counts that were scheduled on Saturday were conducted successfully.
Among a total of 61 species recorded on the Andover count, highlights
included 1 SNOW GOOSE, 31 WOOD DUCKS, 127 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 72
WILD TURKEYS, 20 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS, 5 NORTHERN
FLICKERS, 7 FISH CROWS, 883 AMERICAN ROBINS, 1 FOX SPARROW,
and 44 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS.

least 14 species. These included 11 WOOD DUCKS, 12 EASTERN SCREECH-

CHICKADEES, 31 CAROLINA WRENS, 4 WINTER WRENS, 2255
AMERICAN ROBINS, and 147 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS. Other
highlights from the Worcester count included 3 BALD EAGLES, 1 ICELAND
GULL, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 2 COMMON RAVENS, 1
CHIPPING SPARROW, 2093 DARK-EYED JUNCOS, and 13 SNOW
BUNTINGS.

NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1 WILSON'S SNIPE, 175 HORNED LARKS,
1 IPSWICH SAVANNAH SPARROW, 10 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS,
5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, and 50 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and
miscellaneous reports from the weekend included the GREATER WHITE-
FRONTED GOOSE still at Lake Massapoag in Sharon, a YELLOW-BELLIED
SAPSUCKER in Gloucester, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER and
